At the last May Winchester City Council meeting, I couldn’t believe that the in the same month, the majority of our City Council voted to not fully fund the schools by $620,000; subsequently, the majority of Council, including both representatives from Ward 4 voted in favor of a public bond worth $15.5 million for a parking garage.

Winchester City must do better by our students and families, by prioritizing the future of our community.

57% of Winchester City Public Schools students are economically disadvantaged. 70% are students of color. 44% are Hispanic/Latino. These are our children, and Winchester City Council has overwhelmingly and repeatedly chosen to not fully fund our schools, falling short again this year.

Our schools are the most important public institution in our city. They belong to all of us, and our taxes should fund them fully to reflect the value that they hold in training our future leaders, builders, and sustainers of our local economy.

As your Ward 4 member of City Council, I will fight for…

• Full funding for Winchester Public Schools every year, no excuses

• Public reporting on how school funding translates to outcomes in each ward, especially Ward 4

• Real solutions for public services, not shortcuts through exploitative industries or projects, like casinos or data centers
