Ward 4 has been without a full-size grocery store since 2018, when the Shop ’n Save on Valley Ave closed, the same spot that Food Lion left in 2016. That’s nearly eight years without a comprehensive grocery store in Ward 4. Our tienditas and corner stores are filling the gap created by a lack of leadership: keeping fresh, affordable, culturally familiar food accessible to working families.

Fight for affordable grocery access, not gentrifying replacements that price out the people already living here
Protect and actively support community-rooted small businesses — tienditas, corner stores, and independent grocers
Prioritize worker-owned businesses in city contracting and permitting, and create a municipal technical assistance program for worker-cooperatives
Oppose any development that displaces existing food access without affordable replacements for Ward 4 residents
